What is the best way to strip the black coating off a lawman? I have seen vids where people use steel wool...but will paint stripper work?

Paint stripper will work. Disassemble then use paint stripper on the metal parts you want to remove the black from. Be careful with disassemble as there is a very thin easy to lose pin that goes in the back spacer. I watched a video on youtube on how to disassemble. I stripped my Lawman about 2 months ago took a few coats to get the black off but the end product was nice!
Heres the dis-assembly video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gm1PncaplWc
There are also good videos there on stripping and fine-tuning.

I just used steel wool. Took about half an hour. Nice stonewashed finish underneath the Teflon. Good luck!

I used the can opener on my ALOX Soldier. Softer steel than the AUS8a, didn't damage the blade at all.

Its not that difficult to disassemble if you are careful and have the tools and the patience. Dis-assembly makes it possible to strip the black off all the coated metals parts, but really with the pins/screws/pivot a light rub with a bit of very fine sandpaper on the heads/tops will tone that black down to a nice grey. The grey metal against the black handle makes for a nice visual contrast. Oddly under the black paint the lockback bar is actually quite glossy and shiny.
