Stripping the coating?

Hi guys,

I'd like to strip the crinkle coat from son knifes and have two questions.

1. Would I use a standard paint stripper from the hardware store?

2. Will it hurt the Micarta or G10 scales?

Thanks in advance.

I would leave the paint on under the scales for protection of the 1095 and just use 3m Blue tape and mask the aera and just dont get so sloppy.

Thanks guys. Some of the knives I wish to strip are Swamp Rats and Busses. Their scales are rivited on.

On my Rat knives, I will remove the scales, just in case.

I hate these coatings.

Really? I love the RAT coating. I do tend to get my knives pretty rough, though, so the coating saves me the time of constantly cleaning them. Besides, you use them around marine enviroments, or wear them under clothing in hot/humid weather, and you'll be grateful for the coating. YMMV.

You are not going to hurt the scales, plenty of folks have stripped their Busses with the scales on.
