I would like to eventually strip my 9. I was wondering, can I use paint thinner instead of stripper? I don't currently have stripper.

No, as the coating on the knives is a form of epoxy paint, you have to get something a bit stronger to remove it.

Jasco paint stripper is the magic cure. $6-8 will get you a can that'll do a bunch of knives.

I swapped to the Klean Strip spraycan. Works fast and well...even on the new coating. I dont think I will go back to the gel. The spray is easier to use too. Think it was same price range as the gel.

I used Citri-Strip and it worked so so. I had a fair amount of scraping that had to be done to get the blade mostly clean. Whatever you use, good luck! It's a lot of fun!

I also used Klean Strip foam spray from the can. Easy to use but you 1) have to use it in outside, and 2) use chemical gloves. I used some gloves that were solvent proof but it ate through and burned my thumb. Nothing that vodka martini didn't cure though :) I left the stripper on my BK9 for about 20mins and this was the outcome. Didn't require much scraping but I did use a small wire brush for the areas that were hard to reach.

Sorry for bumping an old thread...
About wire brush - should I use a brass one or a steel one ? Also - can I do damage if I use a power drill cup brush (especially near the edge) ?

Thanks !

Brass would be best. Try to stay away from the edge. It probably wont over heat it but you might put a few nicks into it.
