Stripping?

This stuff works FAST! Your NMSFNO will look like this one when you are done, with a dark grey primer looking decarb layer underneath. You can sand it off or leave it as is...

Personally, I think it looks cool...

I just stripped my Meaner Street yesterday, I used that thread (Resinguys "Half naked Mistress") for reference. Worked exactly as described. The coating was flaking off, it looked like rust underneath- it had to be stripped. I applied first coat of Kleen Strip with a brush, waited 10 min, scraped off coating and reapplied stripper after scraping second coat I carefully rinsed off the knife. The areas with the "Infi Dimples" looked bad- like rust. I used 120 grit paper there, the rest of the blade I used 1000 grit. Sorry no pics. I'm sure you realize, without removing the handles it will be very tough to remove the crud looking stuff in some areas. Glad I did it. And by the way, I need to thank the Hogs, especially Resinguy for all the info posted here.

Sweet looking knife.

Aside from asthetics, are there any downsides to stripping?

Luckily even 8 year old cheap remover makes quick work on the coating. Here's one after 2 applications and a 25 cent brass scouring pad. The darkness at the tip is just bad lighting/camera work, it's all the same grey.

I'm not a fan of coatings on users, I prefer seeing just bare metal. If I didn't clean and oil my blades after use I'd probably leave the coatings on though.

No downside that I can think of... it may slightly improve slicing performance since it eliminates the drag of the blade coating. Prolly not much of a difference though.

only down side could be rust, but you don't have to worry with infi. I stripped a lot of blades, most of them 1095 or other steels, and still its fine as long as you put a drop or two of oil on them before putting them away for a while. Infi is the best!

Very nice. :D

It is actually pretty quick to get the paint off the blade as others have said just make sure to do this outside and use the chemical gloves and some form of eye protection just incase. You can get all these things at Walmart for around $11 to $15 in the paint section, others have just gone to their local hardware stores and found everything too.
I used a cheap plastic scrapper to push the lifted paint off the blade and around the handles and then wiped it down with paper towels, then rinsed it with soapy water to remove any leftover stripper.
The stipper will lighten your micarta or g10 handles until the oils from your hands darken them back up. Overall I am glad I stipped my CGFBM and meaner, the look of raw INFI does it for me.

Good luck on your project and have fun.

Thanks, looks like I'll get to it tonight or tomorrow.

Bu-bye Arctic White.

Most say it won't affect the handles. I noticed a difference on my SS Pumpkin G10 handles. It seemed to take the top layer of resin off. Kind of made them whiteish, and softer. Seemed like it was flaking a bit.

Although, I did leave the stripper on for at least 15 minutes.

I'm all for stripping you blade but, why not buy the satin version? The combat version is obviously a lesser than finished blade than their satin brother...either leave it coated or buy the satin.

So, here's the key question....what's the manufacturing difference between a custom limited edition satin model versus a combat model? Does the satin (non infi dimpled version) start out as a thicker version that is slimmed down to finish off the dimples or does it undertake an entirely different finishing process all together? ...will the anwer present itself or will we defiently sand down the combat version of a blade to get a replication of a separate process??....I wonder...

I want this steel spear to lead me into battle...will you prove my concerns as outrageous?

"...come back with your shield, or on it. .....good bye my love....he doesn't say it...there's no room for softneess...no room for weakness...only the hard, ...only the strong.....we march...for our lands, for our families, for our FREEDOMS...we march":

"...and you, Arcadian, what is your profession...blacksmith... Spartans, what is your professsioin,...HA-OOH! HA-OOH! HA-OOH!" It is ...you see, i have brought more soldiers."

With that....God bless all you soldiers out there. You are most definetely in the right place for your equipment. Too bad it's not standard. Hopefully you'll never have to use this instrument for your needs. But, I'm grateful that you have the option.

So, why is it?........that the STANDARD (combat) version of a Busse knife is substandard than their best??????????

.........hmmmmm, I wonder...........I will buy a blade only when they have proven that they are the best, and proven to be the best...........

where is it?...
