I like the way it disappears in this picture.

I let it soak for two days and then used rubber gloves to remove it. Strange how it looked unscathed when I took it out. I used a stiff plastic brush and the coating came off very easily. I'm soaking another one now. I'll let it go a few more days and see how that goes. Then, I'll just leave it as Patina.

The tough part was polishing it. I stood at the buffer for about 3 1/2 hours.

Thought the black Paracord would look nice. Now I'm afraid to use it.

Well that just looks beautiful!

Good job on the strip and polish! Is there any treatment to prevent rust as that would be my only concern (specifically under the wrap).

Enjoy!

you're the MAN.. I've tried to polish mine and simply didn't have the patience and never really came out the way I wanted so I patina it..

that looks absolutely amazing and would love to buy it from you.. :D

Good point. Right after I wrapped it, I thought, "Now if I get it wet, I'm screwed".

I guess I could, well, maybe I could, how about, well, this might, well, dang, I'm fresh out of ideas. Guess it is a wall hanger and not a user.

you could tape off the cutting edge and clear coat the rest, it wont be fool proof but it will be a massive help, otherwise a good coat of turtle wax goes a long way to helping protect it

man she purdy !
when I strip my ESEE Knives I leave the coating on the handle area just as added protection from rust

Holy crap, that polished Izula is one of the best looking ones I've ever seen! If you could just figure out a way to keep it from rusting with the polish you'd be the man. Great job!!!

I don't supposed you have pics post-strip/pre-polish, do you? I'd love to see that.

I got some orange gooey type stuff to strip one of mine, and I was quite disappointed in how it worked. It only took some of the paint off, so I ended up using sandpaper to finish it up. Well, that ended up taking enough blasting off it to rid the blade of the lasered etching, so now it is just a patinaed dark steel (used cold blue, then "aged" it with some more fine sandpaper/scotchbrite). It looks OK... actually, pretty good. But I'd kinda like to strip my screaming-eagle Izula, but would only want to do it if I can maintain the laser etching (obviously).

Or maybe I should just s*can the idea of stripping and letting them all age naturally.

That is a fantistic job with the Izzy. I am curious how well it holds up looking like that with honest use.

It would have looked like this !!! I too stripped my izula with chemicals. Works like a charm!

I know this has been asked before, but is that a patina or a primer coat that needs to be stripped to allow the steel to develop a patina?

Beautiful polished blade by the way. I might try that if I had a power buffer.
