hey guys i'm looking for a good strong fixed blade for under 60$ i'm looking at the Ka Bar kurki for 40$ I want something that chops really good and keeps an edge any ideas? thanks.

As you haven't specified a traditional knife, the General Forum may be a better fit for your question. I'm moving it there.

Chops what? Hardwood, light brush, vines?

It would help to know that, especially since you are looking for something inexpensive.

plenty good stuff for under 60...depending on blade size, I would suggest a Kabar heavy bowie for that budget; for a bit more u can get a real nice, tough, proven beast, a Becker BK9.

I have the Ka-Bar Cutlass and Kukri machetes. For the money they are excellent, they both came very sharp, with even grinds, and the sheaths are okay. But, they are purposly on the soft side, so the edge retention is not excellent, but their toughness is.
For hardwoods, and that budget, BK9 is about the best choice for a big knife. You could also consider many of the machete options out there. A 12" Ontario Cutlass machete, once convexed, makes for an excellent chopper. 42Blades has some that are upgraded, he convexes the edge, improves the handle scales, and offers a sheath, all for a very reasonable rate.

thanks guys um... as for chopping mostly small tree some pines and maybe some batoning. and ill check out the becker bk9 and as for machete and axes any ideas on those?

dig around and use your google-fu...it can be had for around 70-80 bucks, you won't regret it. On the downside, you may like it too much and end up buying the whole becker line...

If you want to specifically chop trees, a small axe/hatchet will be better than a knife. You can get a Fiskars for about $30.

LOTS of choices here. A few quick ones. Becker BK9, CS Trail Hawk, OKC 12 or 18" machete. I have batoned with them all. They work well & are reasonably priced.
