Strong handle repair

If I can get this picture working here is a PIC of a repair I did on a recent Blem deal of the day I bought. As Yangdu clearly said the handle was cracked.
It was cracked pretty badly and the price very fairly reflected that. I bought it as a working Khuk and planned on fixing it. I wanted a strong repair.

So I drilled three check holes all the way down to the tang. Cut a line about 1/4 inch deep along the entire length of the crack. Then filled with epoxie.

Quick sand and oil..... Well here it is....

I dunno, Jim.
A fix like that isn't going to last forever. 40 or 50 years from now you might have to fit it with a new one:D
Great work. I can't imagine that it'll go anywhere any time soon.

Looks like a good job for a 'worker' model.

If you wanted to make it a bit more showy, you could have turned it into a little bit of a 'pattern' on the handle by etching and filling a similar (much shallower) line on the opposite side before finishing the wood. ;)

Good Job Jim!!!! More involved than I normally get if I have to fix one but Steve and the guys are right, "It ain't going anywhere!!!!" :D

Well it is now battle tested....just come in from outside where I spend ten mins chopping into some wood just as hard as I could swing this thing.

Lots of sideways torque, smacked the balde on its side.....yada yada.

That crack did not migrate one little bit. My choppin log that I lugged onto my porch for just such battle testing is in a world of hurt.

Looks great to me. What a deal the blems are. We all love working on our knives anyway, so a project is usually welcome. Great job.

Jim that's a great job and a good idea. I would not have thought of the holes. What model knife was it? Pretty wood on the handle there.

Norm,

That is my vampire killer. Its a Foxy Folly I picked up from one of Yangdu's DOTD posts. Its my favorite Khuk right now. All my other khuks feel like tools for various mundane jobs. This one feels like It wants to be in your hand when you go to war with some goblin in your bedroom late at night.

BTW I see you are sellin a GRS. If I had not bought one the other day I would have picked up yours. :D I have two in the mail right now..... Geez I am hooked bad.
