i recently placed order on stropman and got the green and white compound, how do i apply the compound on the strop? or should i get diamond spray or paste from chefknivestogo?

I just use the compounds that came with the stropman.

I basically just color the each side at a fast pace to let the compound heat up and get "absorbed" into leather.

YouTube "jdavis882 stropman" he has some videos on it.

how do you heat up?

I think he was talking about the heat from the friction of rubbing the stick on the leather. Apply like you would be coloring with a crayon. A small amount goes a long way. Too much will just roll up on you and be wasted.

Blessings,

Omar

how do i know if i put too much, i did apply the compound and i can see the green compound and some of leather

You want a thin coat of the green on the leather. If you can see the fibers of the leather strop showing thru the applied compound, then you have enough on it. The leather fibers along with the added compound will help polish and refine your edge if it is already sharp. It will not abrade the metal, but will help straighten out the rough edge and make it smoother. You could use the strop bare without any compound and achieve the same results. The compound helps to polish and speed up the process. Also use light pressure and maintain the same angle used to sharpen with, or you will tend to roll the edge and make it duller instead of sharper. The last strokes should be lighter and lighter pressure.

Also read the above sticky by Twindog re: stroping. Some great information in that sticky.

Blessings,

Omar
