recently added a lansky strop to the setup, and treated it with a 5 micron diamond paste

after a few uses, everything seems to be fine with it, but im wondering if there is anything i shoudl be doing to maintain the strop for long use

thanks

make sure the leather doesnt dry out, you can condition it ( i dont have one with diamond paste, so i dunno how well conditioning that would go tbo), if you like, or just make sure to keep it in a place that wont let it get dried out. there's a thread on BF about conditioning them. clean off the metal residue that the knife leaves when you strop, this can be done many ways.

rough side or smooth side?

smooth side use a pencil eraser. rough side, nylon wire brush. ive used sand paper but it can leave grit in your strop and mess up your edges. im sure there are many more ways, hopefully others stop by and say what method they use. you can also try checking youtube. but be careful some of the insane things people do are not always wise.

WD-40 actually works great for cleaning strops if you don't mind the smell. The solvent breaks loose the old compound and metal that so you can wipe it off with a clean towel and the oil helps condition the leather.

I use Gorilla brand duct tape. Put a strip on the strop and apply pressure; peel it off and done. Got this tip here on BF years ago.

Those all sound good. Only thing that would stop me from cleaning off my diamond paste strop often is wasting the paste.. shit is expensive haha. I doubt it will last a quarter of what the bars do
