After i sharpen my knives with the Sypderco Sharpmaker, would a leather belt laid flat on a table and pulled tight work well as a strop?

Thats what I use. I am going to get some stropping paste to make it more affective. But I have not yet. But just the belt helps a lot.

i would get some green compound first, also keep in mind you might want to practice on a cheaper knife cause it is something you have to get a feel for, IMO

the "compound" used on good thick leather or an actual manufactured strop is best, but a belt will work to some degree, not the same though, defineitly not the same.

If you are just taking the wire off the edge, not honing with the strop, a wide belt is fine. Cardboard will also work.
