I've had a leather strop now for a couple years. It gets used regularly for bringing my edges back when I notice they're a tad dull. It's been loaded up with green stropping compound and lately I've noticed the leather had gotten hard and doesn't strop as well as it used to. Is there any kind of storage solution to this?? sealed bag maybe? saw a youtube video of a guy scraping a razor blade across his strop to get compound out of it. I think mine is a little beyond repair at this piont.
I've got a very nice new strop ordered with diamond spray. Is there any specific way i need to store it?? I want this one to last as long as possible
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I keep mine in a ziploc type bag. I use diamond paste on the smooth side. Storing it in a bag keeps it free from dust.

For your strop you could try using a hair dryer to head the compound up for removal. I always heat up the leather before applying new paste too.

I keep my small strops in 2mil bags that are kept in small plastic storage bins. This is how I clean my strops that use bar type compounds:

This is how I store my strops. I need to clean them and recharge them but they live in this wooden box. I use a stainless steel brush to clean the old compound off.

I use an old 1/2 serrated butter knife to clean mine.... storage is in a plastic bag.
