Found only oblique references to the goodness or badness of this idea, so let me ask the question straightforwardly: does it do any good to strop a serrated edge?

Related questions:
If yes, will jeans suffice (read a post about rouge on a shoelace, sounds like a pita)?
If yes, how long will it put off sharpening?
Esav B. has mentioned steeling the flat side of his serrated knives- better than/worse than/in addition to stropping?

Thanks!

the answer is yes, I use a small cotton buffing wheel with a little white rouge to polish my serated knives you must watch your angles! and too much polishing will dull the knife but if you get it right it will be very sharp. an old test but a good one is to try and cut paper a good polished edge will cut like a stright edge and depenging on grade of steel the sereations stay sharper longer because there is no bur on the edge to roll over

O yeah never use a sharpening steel check out spyderco pro files very nice and perfect for serations along with diamond rods and leather strops, the pro files are ceramic and good to use with any knife because they are harder than any steel known to man

Go get some leather boot laces and put some stropping compound on it, that will let you get in the serations.
