Hey guys, now that I've got a good edge on my Benchmade 940, I'm looking to maintain it with a strop. My question is this: what has been your experience with S30V and stropping? Are there certain compounds that seem to work better with this steel?

Green chromium oxide from Lee Valley Tools works well for me on S30V, and all other steels.

Ed, you're quite correct that the Chromium oxide paste, (green compound) will work. Especially on a powered strop on a belt sander.

Nevertheless, if you ever try the finer diamond or CBN compounds, especially on more abrasion resistant steels, I doubt you'll ever go back to the black and green "colored" type compounds.

ive had success with a black fast cut compound on s30v. it was on a leather wheel though.

Diamond and CBN abrasives rule with steels like S30V, Chromium oxide is a excellent compound but in my experience does poorly on high wear steels.
