Stropping compounds on glass?

I don't recall where I saw it, but I remember seeing a video where a guy was spreading stropping compound on a little piece of glass. Seems like a cool idea since cleaning up the compound and reapplying would just take some water and a rag.

Does anyone here do this? I wouldn't think it would work since the glass wouldn't absorb the compound, and it seems like it would be easier to damage an edge accidentally since it's glass and not something softer.

I've seen several people do it it person. Some salon scissor sharpeners will spray a glass plate with diamond for the final hone of the shears ride. It makes the shear cut almost effortlessly.

It seems to me, at least in theory, that there are much better ways of doing this.
