Hi,just a quick fix-I ran out of stropping compound and got thinking(bad news,I know),the result being I used some old car body buffing liquid(T-Cut) to load a strop to finish a convex edge. The result was actually very good for me.This probably due to the liguid being very mildly abrasive...give it a go.

Its one of the first things I tried when first learning to strop. I quickly learned of better metal polishing compounds like chromium oxide and diamonds though, they work faster and produce better results. Auto compounds work they just don't work that good because they are ment to polish the soft surface of paint. Its cheap and easy to find but so is metal polish.
