Stropping (from a newbie)

I'm sure this has been covered a million times but......

How do I strop my knife? I have an old wide leather belt & want to use it. Do I use the suede side or the leather side? Any tips would be appreciated.

Take and rub in some red jewelers rouge on the smooth side and start stropping.
