As some of you know, im pretty new to the Knife World and my apologies if this is just too basic. I have this Mini Buck, A $4KNIFE and it's the only one i have ever used to cut anything-it's main duty is to open boxes of Bucks for the most part and whatever other online stuff i do and i do a lot-Just had REAL Maple Syrup of the second highest grade delivered this AM. Lately nothing but the lowest grade has been in my stores.

No big deal but every time id sharpen the little one, no matter what i did, i couldn't get it to cut paper clean-I'm sure you are all familiar with that little test for sharpness. Id go at it on one of those Gerber Pen Type Sharpeners ( the equivalent to the Popeil Pocket Fisherman? ) at about 20-25 degrees and then proceeded to bend paper for 5 minutes and then start over.

Then i remembered an article or Post or something somewhere on Stropping that mildly extolled its virtues. So i whipped out an old leather belt and proceeded to strop, the only way i know how, from those movies or the comedies like Abbott and Costello from the 40's and 50's. I just started flipping from one edge to the other and dragging it 8 inches in one direction and then 8 inches back -over and over and you know what, i had no idea what i was doing, but i was cutting paper the very first time. To Test it I took another knife, a Santa Fe that had never cut paper and viola i was making confetti first strop and on a different belt too.

So folks, i just say strop if you haven't tried it.

Thats a great feeling when something works, especially when you don't know what your doing. :D

I always figured if it was good enough for a barber to use on razors, it would work great for any knife

Stropping works . I have several, some loaded some not using light pressure they will cleanly remove a burr . DM

A nice polished edge will take a finger down to the bone in a heart beat. Been there, done that, and I still strop--I just pay more attention to where I point that thing now.
