Stropping Leather

First off, I know this isn't really W&SS material but since I learned about convex edges and such here, I was hoping it'd be ok to ask here.

Where can I get and what type of leather should I get to build a couple of strops like shown here in part 5?

You can purchase good strop leather from Jantz Knifemakers Supply. One sheet will make three 4"x12" strops. $9.95 USD

I use one of JRE's strop bats. It has 4 sides and is preloaded with black, green and pink compound. They also sell the leather to make your own.

Dan and Spen cut the pieces I needed to size and sent them out very quickly. Very personable folks, reasonable prices and excellent leather for the intended purpose.

What "weight" of leather should be used?

Wow I really found that video to be so helpful. I have a few cheap Buck knives and old timers but never was able to put a decent edge on them nor did I care. Now I am expecting my first Busse, so I am already more into this. I went out today to a local leather saddle company and got some clippings and made my own strop. It takes time but wow within less than an hour I can take the hair off my arm.

Welcome to the edge! It is nice here. I buy compressed leather from Woodcraft, I had one close enough to home.
