Stropping medium for Dia-Paste

I have searched and read almost every thread in this section of BF. Not a large amount of info regarding Dia-Paste and what it is used upon for stropping. Most of what I have seen indicates most use it on Balsa wood as opposed to leather, etc. I got some of the paste in yesterday and while I am pretty well versed on stropping with green compound etc, this is my first foray with diamond paste of any kind. I would appreciate any help or pointers where stropping with diamond paste is different than leather with green compound.
Finally if Balsa wood is the medium to apply the paste on, can anyone recommend somewhere to purchase it.

Any hard surface works.

I've used DMT diapaste with bare maple. Hardwoods such as poplar, maple, and oak are readily available in finished 2"~6" widths at your local big box hardware stores.

YT is full of vids of diapaste being used with thin kangaroo leather, printer paper, even glass.

Thanks a bunch TravisH. I will research You Tube again. I could only find 2 vids there, but I will search using Dia-Paste spelled as diapaste. That was probably why I never got many to pull up.

You can use cardboard (which is what I use) or even denim. Just a little reminder that you probably already know. It doesn't take much dia-paste at all so it should last a long time.

I went to the lumber yard and spent about $5 for a .5 x 3 x 48 piece of poplar board. That will make me strop boards a foot long. That gives me a board for the 6,3,1 micron pastes with one left over. I'll give it a shot on a knife or two this evening. Thank you both for the help.

I've used paper before but I generally use the thin cardboard found inside new button up shirts. I've not found leather to work any better and it's far more expensive to buy and maintain.
