Stropping on felt

I just ordered and received some compressed felt. I stropped an already sharpened blade on it for a trial. I don't have objective criteria, bit the felt stropped blade appeared to cut faster and deeper on the paper test. I was really impressed with this material. I used it bare, with no compound what so ever. Has anyone else tried this with similar results?

I use hard felt as one of my stropping materials and love it. Don't have to sharpen as often and it's nice and clean!

I tried it some time ago with and without compound and consistently found rounding of the edge. Never used it again.
