Stropping on hard backed leather

Ok so I have a question. I have a KSF strop. But I've never really figured out how to use it. For stropping i have a green compound loaded leather belt. I strop on that with one end held under my foot and the other end in the opposite hand. From there I flip it over and use the plain leather side to finish up. The thing is though that I free hand sharpen. My knives aren't convexed. I know when I do this that I somewhat convex my knives. I want to use diamond paste eventually and that will require that I learn to strop on a hard backed surface. So how do you guys do it? And just and FYI, I get my knives mirror polished and hair whittling sharp my current way. That is what I am aiming for.

You do it just like you do now, the only difference is the leather won't have as much give.

I know what you mean knifenut1013, but when I do try it, I never get it sharp. Not sure if im hitting the back bevel or rolling the edge or whatnot.

Keep a good angle and stay at the angle you sharpened. Sharpening convex is harder because it requires you to grind more metal at once, you might just be putting too much effort into the V bevel.
