Stropping question

Bought a strop and the two strips have a rough side and a more polished side. Which side do I strop with?

You can use either, but the majority prefer the rough or "flesh side".

Rough first, then smoother side for final polish...;-)

I've always used the smooth side, but I always sand it with a piece of 60 grit sandpaper. Not really smooth afterwards, but smoother than the flesh side. It works for me, but sharpening is a lot of trial and error, you'll get it. Good luck!

I have always used the rough first then finish on the smooth. Not sure if that is right or not thats just how I have always done it.

Do you guys use any compound on it? I read somewhere someone likes using Mother's Mag polish

I use a very fine (green) compound. Works great...Cheers.

I also use the green paste with similar success...;-)
