Stropping question.

Hey people. I’ve been using a 2x8 leather over wood paddle and some Diamond lapidary compound to strop with to keep my blades sharpened. Been working great for years. Ran out of my compound. The tube I had I’ve had for years and the specific micron/grit rubbed off ages ago.

I was going to grab some Diamond emulsion or spray. Can someone please recommend what they would choose for a general purpose, quick pass, sharpening emulsion or spray brand and what micron?

I’m not looking for anything for serious work. I tend to strop once a week, about 10 pass on a side, and my blades stay razor sharp. At least to me. Just don’t know what size to go with. Looked like one micron would do everything I need, from what I read, but figured I’d ask.

Thanks in advance and happy new year!

I use a 4 micron CBN Emulsion from Knives Ship Free for a very similar purpose. Im in construction, so my knives get used everyday, and I strop 1-2x a week for maintenance. I find that 4 micron is a good balance, not too aggressive, not too fine... Its not cheap, but one bottle should practically last a lifetime, as I only use a couple drops per application on a 2x8 strop

This is exactly what I was looking to hear. Thank you my articulate friend!

I use his 1 Micron Diamond Spray on a piece Balsa Wood, he sells that too. Lots of other members here use his product too.

Absolutely amazing product. Here is one of his short videos showing it in action. He has plenty of other YouTube videos posted too that you can watch. Love the hair whittling at the end of the video.

And this is how we end up with that closet full of multiple choice purchases for a single product answer… Thanks, going now!

Gunny Juice is worth a look too. I have 9,6, and 1. I'd probably go with 6 micron for what you're looking to do.

I can second this recommendation. I bought some strops and Diamond spray from him. Very good stuff!

His strops are of EXCELLENT quality! I just purchased another from him and am waiting for it to arrive, and this time I also grabbed a bottle of his 1 micron diamond spray to try out.

You’ll love the 1 Micron Spray. Remember to shake it up real well first before spraying. Hold about 10”-12” away from the strop for the best misting coverage. Make sure to let it dry first before beginning to strop, you can use a hairdryer to help speed up the drying, just don’t hold too close and blow the spray into a smear on your strop.

Look at the YouTube video I posted in my post above of NORTHWEST_KNIFE_GUY NORTHWEST_KNIFE_GUY using the Micron Spray and how he applies it. Enjoy it brother, I actually whittled a hair just for kicks the first time I used it (S45VN & LC200N).
