Stropping Right on the Wood?

I have a piece of teak that the eletric company left behind after a storm blew out our power. It is some kind of strut or something made of teak to hold up to the elements.

This thing has two huge metal fitting bolted to both ends but over all the this piece of wood is probably 18" long if not 24" (I am not looking at it right now).

Anyway, I know that teak has a lot of silicates in it because it is so hard on woodworking tools...saws and whatnot. How would teak work as a bench strop? Just a straight piece of teak without (or perhaps with) compound? Anybody ever stropped right on wood? Without a leather attached?

I got the idea reading about diamond past where they mentioned that it works best spread directly on maple. Well, I got no maple but I got this piece of teak and the light bulb came on.

I like diamond compound on wood the best, of the different types of surfaces I've used MDF and blasa seem to work the best. The wood will work without anything on it just not that well.
