Stropping - WOW!

I used the back of an old belt. It's not rough but rather a smooth surface that has worn in a bunch. I did not prep it with abrasive or anything.

Anyhow I tested it on some other stuff, then ran my CRKT M16,and my Gerber Covert over it several times. It makes the edge look superb! And it feels 'sharper' too. Amazing!

Even a silly Case slip joint benefited!!!

I'm sold on doing up a proper Strop!

It is amazing what a finishing touch a little stropping will do. An old belt costs nothing but adds so much to a final edge. If you havn't tried it you are missing out :) I've had good results stropping on the side of my sheaths too.

I used to keep an old belt for just that reason. I used to sharpen up my old Beretta folder with 440C. Used an Arkansas stone for the most part, then tidied up the edge with the belt. I really need to find that belt again...

It'll actually keep your knife sharper longer by getting rid of the wire edge, with this gone it won't be so prone to the edge breaking off, and leaving flat spots or little chips out.
Beware though some of the newer alloys, ATS 55, 154 CM take a little more work stropping because of the harder steels.

Yeah, the Emerson website has the cardboard notepad-back trick listed as the way to go. I tried it, and it worked well, although I think a belt is a little easier to work with.

my two most common strops are my blue jeans and the palm of my hand (often the most handy)

EDIT: HAHA! I made a pun!
