Just recieved my Bark River stropping sticks in the mail today. I took an old belt and followed Bark Rivers directions on my BenchMade folder. I was amazed how easy it was and how razor sharpe I got it after a couple of minutes. Now with that said, I want to practice more with a few kitchen knives before attempting a larger blade. I know this is a common thread but I thought I would share my experiance.

God Bless

Keep us informed on how these sticks work out. How about some pix, please?

Thanks

I wonder when the Busse strop might return to the company store.

I think we're talking about the stropping compound that BRKT sell. They come as two 'sticks'. One is fairly course (for a stopping compound) and is good for removing fine scratches and general sharpening. The other is more of a polishing finish.

Ah,I see now what's meant.Thanks:thumbup:
Do you guys favour a hanging stropping belt or the one on the tensioning device like they sold in the Busse shop? The latter you can buy here in europe already impregnated with green compound on one site.

I prefer to fix my leather to a rigid backing. Right now, that just means it's clamped to one end of my desk and the desk top is the backing. One day I'll make a wooden 'paddle' and glue the leather on.

My 'strops' are a big, thick leather belt (it's a really posh, designer make belt that I picked up for pennies at an outlet store - how many knives can say they've been stropped on a Prada???) and some offcuts from a hide I bought for sheath making.

Stropped on a Prada...so therefore "foxyrick" eh?:D )))
What do you use as compound(s)?

I use chromium oxide mainly, with Dremmel polishing compound (red waxy stuff, comes in a little tub, might be about the same as jeweller's rouge) for final polishing if I can be bothered. Often I'll just use the leather bare for polishing.

The first time I tried stropping a knife (just a bare leather belt) I was amazed at the difference it made to the edge after just a minute or so.
