Stropping.

Should I start stropping my knives after I sharpen them on Lansky's ceramic rods? How much of a difference would it make? How long would it take? What's the best way to keep a consistent angle while stropping? Also, if I do start stropping, is this compound good? http://www.sharpeningsupplies.com/Green-Honing-Compound-P26C11.aspx What size leather strop should I buy? Sorry for all the questions, just curious :o
Yes, use it after the fine rods, the difference is like the edge after the coarse rods and after the fine rods.
Try 50strokes per side and then do alternating strokes.
Practice.
The compound looks good.
It depends on the size of your blades, I would go for a strop atleast 8inches in length.

FIFTY?

If you need that many, there's something wrong. I strop everything I have, and five to ten per side is more than enough.

Light pressure and strop following the angle of the sharping. I use my finger nail to be sure I have removed the burr.

from my experience, no; only time it to knock off a burr. Everytime I strop a sharp knife it is duller after. It could be my technique too

:(

I rarely need to use anything but a strop to keep my knives razor sharp. I also use a strop after sharpening but for touch ups I use a strop only.

Maybe it's just me, but I love extremely high polished edges, I like stropping to the point where I can see myself in the edge :D.

I like to strop in a quiet place. Start at a low angle and bring it up until you just hear a slight whisper sound of the edge moving across the strop. I find that is the best angle. You also need to be very careful to not roll the angle up at the end of the stroke since that will wipe out the edge in an instant. I work one side at a time until the last couple strokes since it is easier to hold a consistent angle if you are not continuously flipping the blade.

Good luck!

Alright, thanks.

How do you use those pastes?

Btw, here a good vid w/ stropping:

By Nozh2002, watch 9-14 i think.

He does like over 100 passes w/ the strop, but he also wittles hair :)

Good vids but a little excessive on the compound. The diamond compound you only use a very little bit and it helps to wipe the leather with something like WD-40 so the compound spreads evenly. 100 passes is sometimes only the start when stropping.
