Okay so I want to start stropping my knives and when I'm older I'm going to probably shave with a straight razor so I'll have to stop that. What I need to know is, how can I make a good homemade strop, where can I get the materials to make it and what kind of compound do I need and where can I get that. I know you use leather for stropping but I don't know anywhere around here that sells leather. So please help me out with this. Thanks.

i would go to knives ship free .com and order one it comes with all the compound and everything i believe they are around 39 bucks shipping included thier located under the knife care section hope this helps

I would say don't use a wood mounted leather strop for a straight razor when you get there, use a slack belt strop (literally a leather belt pretty much). It will follow the back radius properly and give you a keener edge without breaking the edge.

sharpening supplies I ordered a sharpening stone from them, do they have the compound?
