Strops & Batons? Suggestions?

Hey guys. I have a few quick questions. I used the search function and didn't really find anything current or specific as to my questions.

(1) Baton: I used a big limb to baton my BM-E a few weeks ago. The limb eneded up breaking. So I started to use a very dense, hard, plastic mallet. It worked great but... Is this o.k. or should I stick with wooden mallets? Any suggestions as to which.

(2) Stroping: I need to purchase my first strop & compounds. Is there any out there that really stand out or will one work as good as the other?

Specific companies, models, brands, etc... would be great.

Thanks guys.

1) just dont use a leather maul to baton it through metal, it gets expensive. :o You can use any hardwood for a baton: baseball bat, axe handle, oak tree branch........

2) pssst, dont buy the leather part bro, my good customers get that kinda scrap cheap or free. ;)

The Co. Store used to have a great strop.

Never ordered one because I was too busy buying knives.

Maybe Leatherman can send them some scraps.

Gotta clear out some shop space for a ceramic kiln so I'll dig out the scrap bin and see what I have, might have a strop deal in the workings, depending on the type of set up. :)

What's a guy suppose to do?
Buy sheaths for knives he doesn't even have yet.

did you not see me use a bowling pin?? That is perfect, because it is rubberized outside so it does not break. Great baton implement.

hmmm, for someone who is trying to work something out of my hands, you sure don't try hard. Scrap? Have I seen any scrap? NO! Any strop material? NO. Hmmm, maybe I am not a good customer.:jerkit:

I was gonna make you a super secret 2x4 foot AK stropper. :p For that super secret AK74, ooops, did I say 74? :o

Is the angle of stropping critical? I ave the Busse strop and use it considerably but I was wondering if there an optimal technique. Any suggestions?
