Yesterday I got an email from someone, don't worry Ed I won't tell em it was you
that saw my post on the traditional forum trying to find someone to make me a custom slip joint.
I detected surprise in the tone that I was one to use such a thing. I guess that is understandable since I rarely talk about them. Fact is though I've had a love affair with the slip joint for my whole life. My love of knives and the passion that comes from it started there with a slip joint. In fact its the one in this pic my grandfather gave me when he retired it. The little two blade yellow handled one with hardly any blades left to speak of that he called his pipe cleaner. Its an old Hibbard Spencer and Bartlett.
There are some other old ones there from uncles, the Remington two blade in white and the Camillus US knife, and even one from an aunt that she knew nothing more about other than her first husband carried it for a while and that it sat in a drawer mostly. Its the red handled Camco.
That old SwordBrand Camillus Cam-Lok is one of the first knives I bought for myself when I was just old enough to drive I think or there around that age of 14-16 years. Its seen lots of use and lots of white tail deer skinning and field dressing jobs, rabbit and squirrel too growing up in West Virginia and of course my well used Stockman by Schrade and an old Liberty Bell model by Schrade I carried until I found out it was part of a three knife set. Never found the others though>
Then of course are my more recent acquisitions in the middle. Some Bull Dog Brands including a whittler wharny and the neat little take apart knife, as well as my all time fave slippy the tear drop buffalo easy opener and an old Sog Tool Clip. Next are my customs. The three Scagel repros. Top one by Ray Kirk MS of Talequah Oklahoma and two Northwoods redone for me by Dirk Potgietier (Oupa) to a Sod Buster appeal.
Ok, now you know. I do love slip joints! Now fess up. Show me yours!
