Without exception, 'hair poppin' sharpness gets a lot easier at 30° inclusive or lower. 40° can do it, but the apex needs to be essentially perfect, and it won't last long once the apex wears even a tiny bit at that thicker geometry; the apex is the ONLY thing thin enough to shave, and just barely. Consider that edges actually made for shaving are usually less than half that, below 20° inclusive. When they're that thin, the apex can still absorb some wear and degrade a bit, but the thinner geometry behind it will still allow it to keep shaving for a while.
It takes more work to set up the 30° edge, if the edge is currently much thicker; but it's worth it in the end. The linked thread referenced by cbwx34 earlier is worth looking at, for working towards that goal.
