Ok, here goes - I need expert opinions (this means you

1. Is BM going to make a Stryker with an Axis lock?

2. Why do all Axis lock knives have liners that seem (from the pictures) to only go about 1/3 of the way down the handle? Isn't this a problem, especially if the handle isn't T-6061 aluminum and might need the structural reinforcement that full liners provide (not to mention how the liners reinforce the blade)?

3. Does the standard linerlock on the Stryker seem sturdy enough to you? I'm considering getting one even without the Axis lock - LOVE the titanium liners, handle shape/G-10 scales, and modified tanto blade shape - but will the regular linerlock stand up to abuse? (I value my fingers highly...

Let me know, experts - and congratulations to Bladeforums on a happy 2 years - may you have many more!!

Not all the Axis locks are partial liners. I know the 730, 705, and 710 have full liners. The 720 and 940 have the Aluminum handles. I don't know if the 722 has partial or full liners. So, basically, the 722 is the only one which is in question according to your standards, and that could be allieveiated if you find out whether or not that has full liners.

Who knows????

BM 710 and 705 have full liners. To make the handle a little lighter the liners are skeletonized (sp.?).

I never experienced any problems with lock on BM 910 and 905. But now when I got the 710 and 705 I think that the axis is much stronger and I do not use the Stryker anymore.

as you can see I have the BM 910 and 905 and 710 and 705. I liked the Stryker till I got the Axis. Blade of the Stryker is quite thick and not really useful for utility purposses. Even for self defense the Axis seems to be much better (because of the axis lock). I would advise you to go to some knife shop and handle both knives (or even all 4 of them) and decide for yourself.

IMO the Stryker is very good knife (esp. if you like tantos) but Axis is just better.

Good luck.

The "partial" liners of my 940 extend for about 2/3 the length of the handle. My understanding is with these partial liner axis locks, the lock is a modular lock. Meaning that several knives can have the same lock, cutting down on manufacturing complications. So, I would bet that the liners are the same for the 722, so that if the handle is about the same size, then they go 2/3 of the way.

Based on my experience with Spyderco knives with only one liner, nested liners, and in the case of the BladeForums Native, NO liners, I wouldn't worry about the 722 only having partial liners. I THINK it should be about as tough as the aluminum, and certainly stand up better to the inevitable collisions with other hard objects (my 940 already has a couple of scratches on the aluminum handles).
