Stryker vs. Commander

Stryker is, I believe, cheaper. Doesn't have wave. But few indicate a true love for the Commander - it's fast but seemingly the daily carry of few.

How does the quality compare?????

Interesting choices for comparison. Two TOTALLY different knives, with almost NOTHING in common. Personally, I don't like chisel grinds. I'm anxious about this.

I love my M2 Stryker, It is a cutting machine. I now have a new love though with the Commander. It's just more knife! It has more blade, heavier liners, more grip and the out of the pocket opening get peoples attention!
As a utility knife the M2 AFCK is my favorite. As a utility/self defense knife the Stryker is hard to beat. But as a strictly self defense/tactical folder, my new favorite is the Commader!
The recurve blade is nice on the eyes too

Neither have Chisel grinds although a few Strykers have them.

Spark is writing a review on his Commander for the January "To The Point" issue. He has carried one for nearly a year and he loves to whip it out using the Wave feature.

What was said about them being completely different is true. So I would find it difficult myself comparing them.

It is hard to compare them because they are different knives but..

My vote would have to definitely go to the STYRKER

I own both and I think the Stryker is a more practical knife with more uses and they both are very sturdy but I still like my M2 stryker more

As far as a quality comparison, my Commander was perfect when I received it, but then so was my Stryker. I sold the Stryker and the Commander (#876) has been my daily carry ever since. I think that both have had their share of production problems. If you search the Emerson forum, there have been problems reported with the production Commanders having excessive blade play and loose lock up. There are problems with the Stryker, though in all honesty I have not followed them, and it has been a while since I have seen anything regarding them.

Quite frankly I have had the privellege too to test drive these two knives. the emerson commander is on my list but it got knocked down in ranking due to a new found iterest in Hossom knives.

The stryker's handles feel better in the hnd and SEEMS to have a smoother operation than the commander. However I am not a fan of tantoes and as such am biased in my decision. I like recurved blades better. The commander is a heavier baby too.

in this case it might be as simple as to what kind of blade you like. but trust in me in my opinion the stryker is the most comfortable production folder handle I have ever held.

you know the more I talk abuot the stryker on discussions the more tempted i get - despite the facttha i am not a tanto fan.. nnggrrr

Great replies all. In my neck of the woods, these items are not found in storefronts and I have held neither.

Although evidently very different, I recalled both as tactical - and recalled that some Strykers were chisel. Interesting the different preferecnes of some truly sharp members - makes me think they're probably both high quality items.

Thanks! Any other thoughts - looking to order one, not both!

I have been carrying a Stryker daily now for a few years.I have never held a more comfortable knife handle wise.Saber grip feels like an extension of my hand, reverse grip is also extremly comfortable. As others say its a cutting machine. Many complain its not a good cutter cause it lacks belly but where the v junction near the tip meets I have found it to be suberb for close controled cutting. Of all my carry blades this one is still my favorite.

I have owned both and carried both and sold both. My M2 AFCK seems to find its way back in my pocket. I prefer the thinner pointed blade and that M2 steel is killer. Nothing is as fast as a Commander and it feels great in the hand. Although its not chisel grind, its chisel sharpened. Commander has too much recurve on the blade for me and point is too thick. I guess if your main reason for having a knife is to poke someone, the Stryker would be good, but the AFCK is better general user. If you go Stryker, get the M2, you'll be glad you did.

It's not chisel ground?!?! CRIPES! Well now I just feel like a complete arse! I was SURE it was! :::Hangs head in shame:::
