My newest experiment. Got this little fixed off the auction site and wanted to try a few things on the sheath.
First the retention "flaps" which provide some friction but not that much. Most of the retention comes from the tight fit of the blade in the lightly wet molded sheath.
The finish is neatsfoot oil with bag kote. Quickly becoming one of my favs for plain and simple works for ease of application and feel. Might have to add a bit more neatsfoot in the future and counter the softness with baking like horsewright does with his sheaths (Dave , your handle already got learned by my auto correct
).
Carry options vertical and horizontal. It was intended for left hand front pocket cross draw, but my belly gets in the way when sitting down. Scout carry small of back is totally comfortable though.
Something I noticed by chance is a new way (for me) to burnish the edges. Had an almost clogged/used piece of sanding drum for the dremel. And when applying the gum trag I thought "why not try it". It left some white areas where I probably ground some stuff off, but otherwise it gave me the smoothest edge so far for almost no work. Nice.

I know it is not particularly pretty work, but I rushed it and we are still at 100 F. Also one more thing I noted is that I should have punched the stitching holes when the leather was still wet. I was only able to use it as markings when I made them on the dry leather. Also I think I just can't use the stitching awl properly. No way for me to punch it through the three layers of leather. It is sharp and polished... Still no chance... Seems like I am doing something wrong. I ended up drilling the holes.
