So i'm looking at these two fixed blades (I love this type of design. I'm not that big a fan of rounded handles):

Ka-Bar Impact D2 Combat:

Camillus CUDA Terzuola:

The Ka-Bar has an extra inch of blade and is $30 cheaper than the camillus, but the Camillus has better steel.

Just curious if anyone one owns either of these, so as to compare the quality of the two blades.

Also, for owners of both ka-bars and camillus knives, is the factory sharpness of ka-bars anywhere close to camillus?

i can't comment on the Terzuola vs. the Impact (i can say i'd get the Terzuola even tho i like the looks of the Ka-Bar better tho, 'cause i've heard negative things about Ka-Bar handles loosening), but i can say in my experience, the factory sharpness is in Camillus' favor...

No it doesn't; D2 is an awesome steel for knives!!!!

i was under the impression that ATS-34 is softer and holds an edge better

is the problem with loose ka-bar handles a pretty well known defect or just a few rare cases?

I had a cuda cqb1 that I liked very much. It had a slim kydex sheath and very nice fit and finish. Very sharp too. I would still have it but I traded it to Glockman99 for a Gerber BMF that I always wanted (thanks again Dann!). But I would not hesitate to buy one again.

D2 IMO is a much better steel for edge holding. Can be a bear to sharpen if you don't have the right equipment though... But ATS34 is fine. Neither of those brands is a sure thing. They both have made very good and very mediocre knives...

And I still have that Camillus CUDA CQB-1, but I also finally got the real thing...A Gryphon M30A1. For those who don't know, the CQB-1 is based on the Gryphon M30A1...The style is pretty much the same.

Between the Camillus and the Ka-Bar...Get the Camillus. Trust me on this one.

seeing as its a CUDA - I would say go for it. The CUDA stuff is much better than the camillus branded stuff. My CUDA EDC is great.

i don't think it's an all too common problem, especially not in the Impact series, but i'd rather not take my chances, so i'd go with a Camillus Cuda product... my Mini-Cuda is the toughest folder i own...

IMO, D2 is a much better steel, when done right. On my Queen CoBo in D2, I dinged the blades against metal. The metal turned, and I was able to straighten it back out with a steel. On my Benchmade, however, when this happened, it chipped every time...and this meant it had to be resharpened. D2 is a great steel, and the difficulty of caring for it is greatly exaggerated.

Also, sharpening it isn't THAT hard...with my lansky, I reprofiled it in about 1 hour. My 420HC Schrade took about 30 minutes...definitely feel a difference, esp with the high-grit stones, but it's not impossible.
