Hey guys I have a knife that I can’t crack the pivot screw on. I really don’t want to scratch up the lock side or lock side hardware….has anyone ever used liquid wrench or something similar with good results? I’m talking spraying the hell out of it and letting it sit overnight… or is there a better way? FWIW, this is a Hinderer
TIA
Tony

A judicious application of heat with a soldering iron. I'm not familiar with hinderer as far whether they thread lock the pivots.

Thanks, but I don’t have a soldering iron. Will boiling water work ?
Idk if it’s got threadlocker on it… I’ve changed like 4 Hinderer scales before, with no problem, until I went to take apart a different one. (Idk why I can’t crack this one, the others came apart pretty easily)

Hold the nail in the pliers, heat the tip with the torch, then use the point of the nail to transfer your heat to the pivot. Shouldn't take much, it not like we're trying to remove a rusted 15/16s bolt from a truck.

Hinderer does use loctite on the pivot screw. Make sure you use a bit that is hollow ground on the slot side or it will raise a burr when you unscrew it. I have a set of Brownell bits I use that are hollow ground. I have taken them apart without heat but I have the bits that fit perfectly. I hate screw heads that are rolled over. It is a carryover over from my days of working on guns.

I do have the armorers tool, but I can’t crack it, I think I’ll try the hairdryer trick next time, and if that doesn’t work then I’ll use a torch/screw.

Lay said knife on flat surface, insert wrench, quick sharp whack with a small hammer, the concussion should break the bond allowing it to be loosened

I don’t doubt that this could work, but on a $400-600 knife….. nah lol

Before you hit it or use some of the other methods suggested let the pivot sit in some boiling water.
Yes this is what I was looking for! I thought I remembered that being a thing, just wasn’t sure !!!!!

FWIW it’s probably not stuck too bad, so maybe this will work!
I gotta head to work now, but later on I will try, in order…
1. Boiling water
2. Hairdryer
3. Torch/nail
4. Sell the damn thing

Thank you everyone for the responses, I really appreciate it!
I think I can close this one down now, thanks again bladeforums!
