Hi all,
I would like to introduce you to my apprentice Barbara.
Barb contacted me last summer and asked if I would be willing to take her as an apprentice. I looked around my shop and thought..."hey, it might be nice to get it a little cleaned up" so I said yes. She has been comming out about once a week and helping me with things in the shop for a while and then we would work on knives.
We started with forging for a while and when she had a blade that was nice we decided to take it all the way. Barbara did ALL the work on this knife....I just watched over her shoulder and tried to get her to learn from my mistakes. You guys be the judge....please tell her what you think of her first complete knife.
Blade is hand forged 1084(from NJ steel baron of course!), guard is copper and nickle silver, handle is some birdseye maple from Bill Morans shop that I gave her for her birthday(she just turned 23). She made the sheath out of 10oz leather and hand stitched it!

I just asked her if she was open to critique and she said "yes"....so....let her have it!:D

And here she is. Don't let the hammer and smile fool you!

Wow, that is a very nice knife. I guess both of you should be proud. Good job!

Looks good to me from here! Great job...BOTH of you!

The only advise I can think to give her is to learn as much from you as she can before your baby is born. After that you (and she probably if she's still hanging in your shop) will be doing less forging and more diapering!

Great looking knife and a Sabbath fan to boot!
How about a pic of the plunge cut.
Nice piece of handle material and I love the guard.

You and Barbara should be very proud!

I'd say that she learned well from you.......nice flow to the blade, even hand strokes applied to finishing the blade, the handle looks familiar but it should with your teaching and oh well I leave the sheath alone.............overall a knife truly to be happy with

Very nice, congratulations both to the master and the apprentice. I'm looking forward to seing Barbara's future creations.

Great first effort for sure! Looks like Barb has the "knack" Maple from the Moran shop has some good "MOJO" too!

Congratulations, nice start, forger and rocker, optimal mixture.
We want to see more of your work.

Hugs.

Excellent start! Make sure she come to Mystic in a couple of weeks to meet everybody. And I think it's really nice you are teaching her to take over while you are busy burping the baby.
