I know there is some thumb studless assisted knives with a spine/flipper:confused: just cant find any :(

.....the highly regarded Kershaw Junk Yard Dog series, and the fine Boker Exskelibur I and II come to mind. Others will soon arrive to provide you with more good options.
PLEASE DISREGARD THIS INFORMATION. IT'S INACCURATE. NEITHER ARE AO. SORRY FOR THE BUM STEER.

- regards

The Kershaw Shallot is a great framelock AO. It can be had with 14C28 or S110V... nice looking too imho. The Kershaw OD-1 isn't AO, but the flipper it utilizes is faster than some AO knives I've seen. The OD-1 is also 14C28 and the flipper isn't part of the blade, but rather mechanical (folds into handle when open)

Here's the Shallot

I was under the impression that the OD1 was NOT assisted. And I know that the JYDII is not assisted either.

The G-10 Tyrades or G-10 Needs Work, if you can find them, are both good choices in either a large or medium size folder. Both AO flippers w/o thumbstuds.

I thought there would be more of a selection :grumpy: I was looking at the the kershaw OD-1 (love the blade profile btw) and it seems there is a set of gears or something along those lines that kickstarts the blade. :)

I happen to have my OD-1 disassembled right now.

As you can see, it's just a simple lever.

Just a simple lever, but the effect was a little unexpected for me. I think it is the best 'flipper design' knife I've seen in a long, long time.

Damn kershaw has to stop with all these cool designs. I wish I hadn't seen that OD-1 picture now I really want to get one :( This knife addiction can be painful when your low on cash.

The genius of the design is how simple and effective the mechanism is. I suppose it isn't "just" a simple lever. This is the only flipper I know of that can be opened slowly (or quickly) with just the flipper.
