A few of the recent BoB thread made me curious about one thing - how does heat inside the trunk of your car (during hot summer days) affect food? Let's just assume that this is a BoB that would be in the trunk of your car. Any suggestions as to the kind of food you'd recommend?

For that matter... should one be concerned about leaving a bic lighter, pepper spray, and other similarly combustible items in a hot trunk.

Thanks.

wrap it up in a wool blanket or sleeping bag, which you should also have in your BOB gear, and it will stay cool enough in most intense heat, especially if you open it up in the evenings to take advantage of the night chill, and then wrap it back up before it gets hot the next day.

nature finds a way.

In this part of the world ( Southern Queensland 27 dergrees South) Spray cans have been known to explode left in cars. Kids left in cars will bring a crowd in a shopping center to a near lynching fervor. ( An offense with hefty fines, gaol time and perhaps loss of the kids.)
I only put candle stubbs in my first PSK they melted and solidified into a mass ( Mum's decorative candles melted on the mantle in Townsville at 19 degrees South)
But food, Jerky is vacuum packed, The other food in my Bob are dehyds.
Chocolate obviously just doesn't happen. Unless you like it in it's liquid state

P.S. There was a radio joke here over Summer that "you know you live in Queensland if you know Asphalt has a solid and liquid state."
