Stuff like this drives me nuts...

So far, it seems a way for someone to get more money for research, more money from sueing companies, even though there is no concrete evidence it does anything to harm humans, what levels are harmful to mice, how it gets into the tissues of people not exposed to it (yep...), etc......
Woooo... scary stuff, huh?

Studies in the toxicity of perflourooctanoic acid and its salts has been ongoing since the late 1990s. The EPA's call for a preliminary risk assessment was published in the Federal Register in April of 2003. This latest study, the January 12, 2005: Draft PFOA Risk Assessment submitted to EPA Science Advisory Board for Peer Review: SAB meeting February 22-23, 2005, is the EPA's initial result. The EPA has estblished a web-site Perfluorooctanoic Acid (PFOA) and Fluorinated Telomers for information. All of this is a matter of record.

I didn't see the initial post that was edited so I cannot speak for what you are upset about. There are countless other persistant chemicals in our environment that may or may not be teratagenic, carcinogenic, mutagenic, or any number of not-very-goodagenic agents. Far too many for this some college chemistry yet far more than the average joe medically educated to raise a sky is falling call right now. This didn't make the evening news and we can't be all knowlegable of everything out there that can pose a real or imagined danger. There have not been any alarming trends in the mortality or morbidity rates in association with PFOA and long term studies are in progress. I trust the EPA will persue this as advertised and we will not have a repeat demon haunted jury of the uninformed passing a death sentence on manufacturers when they are confused by the science and impressed by the vain plaintiff's portrayals of suffering by their hired legal guns. (Read breast implants and Dow Corning)

Patience and common sense for now.

Thanks KV. Still wondering what exactly amadeusM is P.O.d about....

Please note this very important quote from this article:

The chemical is PFOA, sometimes called C-8. It's used to make Teflon - made by DuPont -- and many, many other products. But DuPont says PFOA is used only during the manufacturing process and that there's no PFOA in Teflon cookware or other Teflon products.

boldfacing added by me

There is no need to throw your Teflon-coated cookware... or knives... away.
