I have found a few knives over the years but most were completely rusted or had been buried in the ground so long they weren't worth picking up ...

but last night it was a bit cooler than it's been so I saddled up and went for a ride in the evening ...

stopped to take in the view for a bit and walking around something caught my eye in the V of a tree ... so I found this ...

not sure just when it was made ... doubt it's too terribly old but has a few years on it ... I'll have to check it out and see if I can clean it up any ...

Some guy over on the "knives I've lost" thread is probably telling a story about how he left his kabar in a tree and went back and couldn't find it about 30 years ago, and has missed it ever since.

Nice find, Dad had one just like that. Somebody somewhere is kicking himself for certain. I remember being on a camping hike in 89, and a buddy had a Cold Steel Master Tanto attached to his pack strap. It was a pricey knife at the time, and it dropped off during the trip. I helped him look for it by hiking 2 miles back down the trail, finding it in the dirt, then turning around and meeting up with the rest at the camp--turned a 5 mile hike into 9, but he got his knife back.

I am assuming its stainless or the blade would have alot more rust or discoloration ... but where it was it may have been somewhat protected from the weather ... and the leather isn't rotted so I would guess it's not been lost there so long or has been shielded from alot of the wet weather ...

but I'll try cleaning it up someday here and see how that goes.

Nice find! I once lost a pair of sunglasses hiking and found them on a tree about 8 months later. Someone had picked them up and hung them on a branch. Little dirty but still ok!
