Stumped by my own Old Timers

As you know, the same handle patterns were shared between many different models. For instance the 34OT, 33OT, and 36OT are all the same handle with obvious differences in the blade configurations.

Today I had all of my Old Timers laid out and was pondering the differences between same-handled knives. Then I hit a wall. What is the difference between the 8OT and the 89OT? The handles are the same, and both knives have the same three blades.

Anyone know what the deal is?

The only difference is the 89OT has a scalloped sheepfoot for light cutting as per Robert Clemente's book.

No, it's a flat sheepsfoot blade. This I think is the best answer I'm going to get, Codger's post in the other topic:
I am guessing that it is a "last of days" knife, where the order came from on high to assemble everything inhouse. Get them finished! The other possibility is that it is one made 1989-99 where the wrong blade got put in the 8OT barrel and it is an error. You will see some of the former knives with OT blades on UH scales. It is really just anybody's guess. I think the odballs are interesting though. Only time (25 years or so) will tell if they become a collecting niche with their own values like error coins or stamps.

I don't think, however, that it was an "end of days" mistake knife. The blades are unused and unsharpened, but they have tarnished in specks. It seems to be an older knife.

Thanks for the comments. I read that older topic a few days ago, but the relevent portion didn't stick out in my mind.

Best Wishes,
Bob
