It's not stumptop yet, but it'll be so once it get's above -20 outside (god bless Maine), but I'll throw up some images and thoughts so far to get the ball rolling.

First up, my Dhan Kami Gopte. This thing is freaking beautiful, and a monster for it's weight. When I opened the triangle box from Auntie I was shocked first at how such a light knife could be so thick (coming in at about 16.5", and 16 oz), and then at the sheer beauty of the blade itself. Everything seemed perfect, it was a literal mirror polish, with amazing engravings. I'll let the pictures do the rest of the talking, but I DID take it out and do some light chopping and it performed as expected: amazingly. The light knife allows for fast strikes, and the razor sharp edge (I have the bald patches on my arm to prove it) cut deep and chipped out the wood.

Next is the Dui Chirra by Purna, of which arrived just today in the mail. It comes in at around 31 or 32 oz with beautiful fullers and one heck of an edge, and is about 17.5 inches long. This thing is a full tang, thick, big bellied beast. While the Gopte comes with a slightly longer, more slender handle, the Dui Chirra's handle is more akin to my KLVUK, thick, and shorter, fitting my hand perfectly. Being full tang I KNOW this thing can take a beating (not going to happen) and the fit and finish is crazy good. The fullers are just drop dead gorgeous, the blade itself is top of the line, as is the bolster, you can barely see the forge weld marks. Everything about this blade is just out-freaking-standing, and I'm almost afraid for the stump of which I'll do the testing on.

And now for the MMB, the little monster that has yet to leave my belt. At 8.5" this sonofagun is perfect for EDC, the fillers are amazing, as is everything with it, and it'll serve every purpose I might need it to. I've made some tent stakes with it, butchered a rabbit, used it to make an impromptu shelter, and yes, even done a bit of no-no chopping, but I couldn't resist. it splits 1", 2", and even 3" logs no problem, and chopped through them just the same. It's a full tang (obviously), and I'd feel more than comfortable carrying this with me anywhere I go. I'll probably work on a custom rig where I can fit a firesteel in there, but the sheath that it comes with is too darn purty to touch. Speaking of the sheath, the fit is TIGHT so for any of you wondering about getting one A. Buy it, and B. make sure you're CAREFUL drawing it from the sheath.

Nice pictures and reviews:thumbup:! I have been wondering about the gopte models.

Go for the gopte, it's a great heavyweight lightweight! As for the quick chopping session I had, here's a few images. I realized it's too dern cold outside and only did a 7 chop test. The winner was obvious.

The contestants, top to bottom. KLVUK (just for fun), Gopte, and the Dui Chirra.

The KLVUK did as expected (I've had it for a little over a year now, won it in Phillllll(lll?)'s givewaway. It's a great affordable knife, and one you're not afraid to take in the woods and use, it'll do what you need it to WHEN you need it to. It chopped fine, just as well as the Gopte. They weigh about the same, the gopte is a bit longer, and the KLVUK has more belly to it.

The Gopte! This beauty really does well for it's weight and shape, although I'll be reserving it for practicing fighting techniques, as that's REALLY what it's meant for. Fast, light, perty, and a good chopper, what else can you ask for? It may have chopped a bit better than the KLVUK, but that has to do with the edge being a bit sharper I think.

And the monster (and obvious winner) was the Dui Chirra. Four strikes put me past where the other two were, and the next three put me a bit over half way through the wood, and blew threw a knot easily. The last few cuts were a bit sloppy, but they go past that notch.

My general opinion? These knives are all fantastic, top notch quality, at an amazing price. These knives are beautiful and functional, even the KLVUK has a rustic beauty, one that can only be captured in a genuine khukuri from Himalayan Imports.

Very nice review Mr. Taco! Great pics too! BBBrrrrrrrrrr! Makes my ears hurt;) Frozen drool on that Purna. That Gopte is stout looking for it weight.

I'd highly recommend the Gopte to anyone who wants a great in-between knife. It'll make a great fighter, but can do bushcrafty stuff too, and at a very light weight. The Dui Chirra I'll recommend to anyone who want's basically a dedicated chopper, albeit in a fight this would be scary to receive. The KLVUK is for those who want HI quality without fear of buggering up a mirror finish. All great knives, and all serve their purposes beautifully.

Ahhhhh, the dreaded HIKV strikes again! Very good article, Darth. Great photography and can see by your bare feet why you think it would be cold outside.:D Very nice little collection of Khuks I might add and am glad you shared them with us.

fzr confused--email Mrs. Martino. I believe she still has a couple MMS up for adoption. She might even have a special deal on one. You never know until you ask, though.

In my stockings in front of the wood stove trying to get some feeling back in them! The wind started whipping up the minute I got outside but I was too far gone to go inside.

That one line tells a lot. It is only once you own your own that you really understand how true this is.

Thanks for sharing.

Great review mate. Love that handle on the gopte, mine is almost identical but with a yellower handle...is yellower a word? Haha but yeah a great knife.

And that dui chirra! Ugh imma be drooling over everyone else's till I get one of my own. Great collection buddy

Yellower is a word in my book. IMO everyone needs a dui chirra. 30 oz is the perfect weight to me, quite a bit of heft.
