Prefix; my boss is a wonderful middle aged woman - not the most threatening person around, nor the most combat/self defense oriented.

The problem with that, is that we have a fairly common prowler at our warehouse. She occasionally sleeps in her office, and has once been close enough to get a good look at the guy. Soon as she said that, I thought "Hey. Close enough to look means close enough to zap the sucker "

What I'm wondering is if you guys have any experience with stun guns/tasers that are reasonably affordable. It could have been said in jest, but it sounded like she liked the idea of having one around, just in case. Half the guys I work with are huge knife fans, but we've got no experience with this type of thing.

Knife, firearm, stun gun, taser, etc. all present problems if you don't have the mindset to train with them and use them properly. Situational awareness is needed if you don't want your defensive weapon used against you.

Your boss really needs to reconsider whether sleeping in a warehouse is a reasonable thing for her to do. If she needs to work late, can't she "afford" to drive home and do some paperwork there, where it is safe for her to let her guard down and sleep?

Sounds like your warehouse needs an alarm system and maybe some recorded cameras.

You will be surprised at how inexpensive a few cameras can be these days.

Cheapie "stun guns" are no good. If you're going to go that route, you want a Tazer Gun Weapon. Those are expensive... upwards of the cost of a few cameras. The biggest problems with Tazer-type devices are that they only fire a single shot and reloading is time-consuming. If you miss, you're in big trouble. Second, the effect "wears off" in a minute or two, well before help will likely arrive. These devices were designed as a tool for police officers who generally work in teams and who can handcuff and shackle the suspect in the minute or two window that the Tazer Gun Weapon can provide.

Oh, and your insurance carrier may give some discount for cameras or an alarm which will lower the overall cost.
