Stupid Mistake! ZT 0560

Okay . . . I made a stupid mistake. I put WD40 on the pivot on my ZT 0560 . . . and then put it away for awhile! Now the action is so stiff I almost can't open it!! Stupid!

But I am where I am! So now I need to disassemble, clean, relube and re-assemble! But I've never disassembled my 0560. Are there any tricks or issues I should know about?

That is a bummer I would suggest getting some tuff glide if you must use lube although the 0560 doesn't need it with the ball bearings. And to answer your question no ZT's are very simple to take apart and put back together I've never had a problem.

I had some time and just said "What the Hell!" and took it apart and cleaned it. OMG it was sooooo dirty! Oh and by the way . . . it was a 0566, not a 0560 (memory is hell after 65!). So it is an assisted opening and no ball bearings.

After a really good cleaning and a VERY little polishing with 2000 grit sandpaper I put her back together with just a little CRK lube that I had.

Now she opens like a champ! BUT . . . now the assist spring rattles a little when the knife is open. I don't remember that being the case before.

Any suggestions other than just removing the spring (I kind of like the assist!)?

You can get rid of that spring rattle by putting a little Vaseline in the cavity where the spring sits.
Had that same problem years ago with an 0303 when the Kershaw forum was still open, received the same advice.

You can fix the rattling spring by applying a light coat of grease to both the spring and the cutout in the frame for the spring.
