stupid new "gadget" i got my little brother

Seems like fun! I just might get one or two or three. :D How about a review? I found a few sites that have them for sale and some say the effective range is 20 feet, some 40 feet, etc. What's your own real world experience, Nawrocki?

i can't use it, it's a gift. I had to wrap it... SO MAD i didn't buy one for myself. I have to wait till thanksgiving to give it to him

Oh, those...

About half a year ago I visited one of those mall novelty stores. The entire staff of 4-5 grown-up kids plus about 4 obnoxious real kids were having a psycho air gun party. They were blasting everyone in the store, probably driving away lots of business in the process.

The effective range for generating a startled jump is probably around 20 feet, but I imagine that it could be felt up to 40 feet away. They're really annoying, and a bit surprising at first.

I wonder how many dumb kids have blasted each others' ear drums out at point blank range. It's inevitable.

I have a much smaller one that uses smoke fluid to shoot smoke rings. This looks like it would work much better, but I would imagine the effective range is less then indicated.

BTW, I heard about one built by somebody that used a blank shotgun shell for power, and it was strong enough to break 1/4 inch plywood.

Use google and do a search on vortex rings.

There was something like that out when I was a kid (long ago, don't go there). It had a rubber disk inside that was connected to a spring. You would 'load' it with a lever on the top then fire it with the trigger. Going by the picture, these look to be larger then the ones from back then. My mom hated the thing because of the sound it made.

I went to the Discovery Store hoping they would sell it, but they didn't. I went there because I want to buy it locally and I thought if anyone would have it, they would.

Does anyone know of a place I can buy it locally? I don't want to order somethign so cheap online.

i have one, it's pretty cool. actually it requires assembly so you might want to open it up and put it together for him and then wrap it up so that he can use it immediately. it's not quite as cool as thinkgeek makes it out to be, but it's good clean fun for a few days. fun to blast pets with.

sygyzy, try galyans if you have one near you, that's where i got mine, in with games and hackeysacks and stuff

Pete

Looking through the catalog I found a duct tape wallet -- I'll be getting one of those babies for sure.
