I've seen pictures in several threads where a zip tie has been threaded through the spidy hole and cut off. The stupid question of the day - why is this done?

It's an improvised Emerson 'Wave' feature. When the knife is pulled from the pocket, the zip tie catches on the corner of the pocket, and the blade deploys in one motion.
