i am brand new to knife making but i bought a wilton so that i would only have to buy one grinder for a while... i am learning how to use it as i go and have run into a problem, maybe...
When you look at the cross section of the rubber it is concave, i was playing with it to see how hollow grinding with it would go and the outside shoulders of the wheel make grinding seem uneven...my question is: Is this wheel intended for hollow grinding and i just need to wear the outside of the rubber down or should i get a different wheel for hollow grinding? if it is not for hollow grinding, what else can i use it for other than profiling?

Jim, I have three contact wheels for my Wilton, and none are concave. I would check with where you bought the grinder first though. If you got it through Jantz Supply, I'm sure they would replace the wheel for you. You could track the belt to one side and shave the wheel even, then track the belt to the other side and finish shaving the wheel. If you do end up doing this, be super careful!! You can use a real sharp 1" wide wood chisel for it. Take care! Michael

you should really cut a thin strip from a used belt..make it run dead center...and with a file round the corners and about one inch in so they match..and you wont get the evil two inch line in your blades..and your bevel start will look a lot nicer.the face of the wheel should be flat when you get it.. if not its easy enough to fix on a lathe, if you dont have one find someone who does....or as above..send it back.
