It is hard for me to tell from the pictures, and I'm not sure I could tell if I was looking at the knife but....

is the BM 940/942 a hollow ground or flat ground blade?

Thanks for putting up with yet another newbie question

Here's another question or two - what is the BT2 coating that Benchmade offers. Is it worth the extra $$?

Also, does it give the blade a more tactical look to the sheeple?

The black coating does aid in corrosion resistance, so it depends on how much that matters to you. I use my uncoated 940 to cut food and other wet things. I wipe it off when I'm done and no signs of rust so far. If rust is a big problem for you then you probably want it. If your knives don't usually rust anyway, or you use Tuff-Cloth, then it's not necessary. A lot of people don't like BM's black coating because it scratches off fairly easily, and looks ugly when it's scratched.

It does give the knife a more tactical/scary look to the sheeple. If you want this knife to be sheeple-friendly, you're best off with a satin blade and green (blue, or red, not black) handle.

Another dumb BM question.A BM auto stryker, blade says "Alan eishewitz, first run, serial number 064/500.Whats the history, value of this BM. THANKS....wolf

I always used to get the BT2 coating with my Benchmades. Never had a problem with rust, but the steel just from its nature used to tarnish, and the BT2 hid that fact well. The coating also lasted a long time for me, although there are those who would argue

That stryker you have witht he serial number is a nice piece. Benchmade usually does things in several stages:

1. prototype
2. pre production
3. first production
4. Normal production (no additional markings)
5. last production (not always done)

From collecting benchmades for a long time I can honestly say that the piece you have would command a higher collector's resale value than the normal production run. Two facts that contribute to it are the low serial number and that its an Allen E. design.

Incase you are wondering when it might have been produced I am going to take a rough guess at oh say.... '97-'98. Professor or anyone else want to correct my time frame for him?

Hope this helps, take care....

I think it was a 1998 first production.

Thanks Guys. I paid a buck and a quarter for it on the BA and it's cherry. I am still staying with production for now, but first runs, serial numbers, and some MT's and MOD's. When you Fine Gentlemen steer me in the right direction, I will buy my first custom, but I am kinda into tactical style, and I want to have one knife that I pay BIG BUCKS for and Have it worth every penny BECAUSE you guys said so.....wolf
