Okay guys, take it easy on me here as I know that this is probably a stupid question, but.......What exactly are "Infi Dimples"? I am just now starting to get into the knife collecting thing and I have bought ScrapYards and a SwampRat but I have yet to snag my first Busse. I have noticed in some of the sale threads where someone will post something like, " has infi dimple near tip of blade " or something like that. Is there hope for me in learning all the knife lingo or do I need to stick to spending all of my money on my beloved 1911s?

That's not a stupid question. There's a bunch of weird terms like that.

If you look at the pics, you'll see that knives that have been stripped of their coating and expose bare metal have these little dimples on the surface. It's not actually exclusive to INFI. All Rats and Dogs will have them too. It's not due to the metal, it's from the heat treat process. Maybe someone can explain better than I.

I thought we found out it was to get the coating to adhere better. I thought. I could be wrong. All the smart folk are drunk at Fogo's right now.

Take a look at the black dots in front of and behind the handle. Those are the INFI dots/dimples etc. I've seen them on all of their older satin blades so I'm also inclined to say they are a natural result of the heat treat process and usually left on for better grip of the coating, but polished off for satin and double cut (bead blasted) finishes.

They are a cratering of the surface where no machining has occurred. They look like this:

What rbmcmjr said. It's metal stock without any (or much) cleaning up.
